Day 2 RPI
In this session, I have been reminded about what information I can use from the PAT results and how I can use that for my planning and targeted teaching. I will definitely do this and use it alongside HERO to help with my planning.
I will also be trying to make sure I use student voices when thinking about success criteria and putting it to them what they think will show they have been successful in their learning. I'm hoping this will give them more accountability for their learning and also give them a sense of accomplishment when they can see that they have been successful.
At the beginning of the day, we heard how a teacher used podcasts (when they were first new) to encourage and excite readers about reading. I was wondering if I would be able to do this using TikTok and getting them to create book reviews for it. Later in the day we then heard from another teacher who had actually done this. I think it would engage some of my reluctant students and I think it would be exciting for them to see if they get followers or any comments. I would need to learn more about Tik Tok myself and how to create videos for the app, but I'm sure some of my students would be able to give me a crash course in this.
Today we were also introduced to the teacher workbook. I am hoping I will have some time soon where I can add in all the different pieces of information that I didn't manage today as I can see how helpful this can be for both planning and keeping track of where the students are working and what their next steps are and it's all in one place.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the many positives from your survey analysis discussions with learners in our homework review session today. Your contributions to our break out sessions are always so purposeful and based on your own learning from practice, which is incredibly helpful for others.
We are super pleased that some of our ‘deep dive’ into PAT assessment today has offered reminders for you of information - like the specific reports - that can inform targeted teaching. As you say, sharing this information with learners and thinking about how they might ‘voice’ their success criteria can be really useful in building learner ‘assessment capability’.
With regards the Reading Challenges 2.0, referenced in the video we watched, just a caution that the teacher didn’t actually use TikTok (i.e. #BookToks). We should have made that clearer. To access #BookTok learners need to be 13 years or older. However, I have sent through the link to Carly’s class slides (see our Google Group) that she uses to ‘simulate’ #BookTok book recommendations. I hope this helps.
All the best with your practice implementations for Day 2! I look forward to your sharing your Task board.

Kia ora Naomi,
DeleteI did wonder how she navigated the legal side of things especially with the age restrictions. Makes a lot more sense that she used it to 'simulate' #BookTok.
Kia ora Talei,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your reflections and learnings from the day. It was great to read what you are going to try out. I know your school is often exploring the data that you gather, so it is great to read that you have been reminded of a few things. How do we manage to keep all of the things in our brains?
I look forward to seeing what you come up with around your own version of BookTok. It was pretty inspiring to watch Carly's video.
Keep up the great learning and blogging,
:) Sharon - Te Ara Tūhura Education Programme Leader
Kia ora Talei. It was great to hear about all your new learning from RPI Day 2. Podcasts will be a great thing to explore and many of your students will have experience with this when they worked in Tāne Mahuta. (https://open.spotify.com/show/4D1Xjy9DzxN3jz5ok4tVaJ) It was certainly engaging for them and I am sure they would be keen to build on from what they have previously done.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could share with your team what you did in regards to analysis of PAT data, it is always good for teams to have a reminder about what insights this can provide and how to make best use of it. I am happy to support you with this. I wonder how you might share the data with the students too so they can see what they need to work on and set their own goals.
Keep up the great learning and reflecting.
